“Not a bad way to spend 10 thousand dollars”

Part information

Below is a culmination of research for MOST of the parts needed to recreate the Fast and The Furious Mitsubishi Eclipse. The goal of this list to help other builders learn from what I have, and to help track down these items. Please beware, this information is as accurate as I best understand it to be - simply said, I may be wrong. Let this list be a start to your own research into these items.

Exterior parts

Car - 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 420a Engine

Funny enough, the Eclipse used in the movie was the base model. Sound effects and some dialogue lines act as if it was a Turbo GST, or GSX Eclipse models. Either way, the Eclipse style body you want is falls into the 2G category which ranges from 1995 - 1999. There’s variations which are the RS, GS, GST Turbo, GSX AWD Turbo. .

Bodykit - robocar

Robocar’s Knockoff of the Blitz body kit. These are difficult to find. Luckily they have been reproduced from old body kits and you can purchase them. Also, you can by the KBD body kit which looks very similar with minor differences.

Wing – APR GT2

This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer so finding it can be a challenge and expensive. If you’re patient you can stumble across one on Facebook Marketplace or something similar to that. There a few recreations, and even more kind of similar knockoffs. In my opinion, Fast and Furious Parts has the best recreation at the best price.

mirrors – APR Formula GT3

These are pretty easy to find, and not too expensive. You have to purchase or make mounts for them to fit onto the car.

Graphics & logos – modern image

Custom graphics made by Modern Image. You can still get these from Modern Image, and it will be the most expensive option, but you’ll know they’re perfect. I hear you should ask for the original version though. There are really good recreations, and a lot of terrible knockoffs. Pay attention to the length and shape language of the ends near the taillights.

Paint - ColorRite 617, colorite 777

Paint is a heavily debated subject for this car. Do you match it to the movie which had a heavy yellow color correction added? Do you match John Lapid’s Eclipse hero car as is? That’s for you to decided.

The image showcased is the inside door of John Lapid’s Eclipse.

Roof scoop - Large Universal

If you see the price listed as something above $200ish then its out of stock. It’s normally listed at $149.99 + $40 Shipping. The thing to note is that it’s large, and round in the corners. Not straight angles.

Rims – Axis Se7en 18”

Only 500 of these Axis ones were made and Axis, the company, is no longer around. Arguably one of the rarest pieces to find for this car. You can expect them to cost a few thousand dollars. Alternatively, these were made by Lenso and you can buy the exact rims with a Lenso center cap which can be swapped for an Axis one.

Under glow - Streetglow Neons

The car in the movie had neon tube under glows. StreetGlow is still around and you can purchase from them. An alternative is LED stripes, which is cheaper.

Gas cap - Foliatec? custom?

I’m not sure where this part originates. It may be made by Foliatec or a bespoke part. Either way, its rare to find. Another point to make about the gas cap is that John Lapid’s hero car had a different one that what shown here.

Interior parts

Seats - Sparco Torino

Part #00946 . This product has been discontinued by the manufacturer. It’s the black and grey variant. I’ve had the most success searching these on Facebook Marketplace.

Harness - Sparco

This product has been discontinued by the manufacturer. It’s a black harness with a rainbow checked flag design. I’ve yet to find these myself. There are knockoffs out there, but they usually have the logo backwards. Good luck!

Pedals - Foliatec

Part #32350. This product has been discontinued by the manufacturer. DTM Props has a really nice recreation.

Shift Knob - Foliatec

Part #32610 chrom/chrome. This product has been discontinued by the manufacturer. There are a lot of variations of the Foliatec shift knobs so look closely if you find something. I sadly learned that the hard way.

Laptop - Compaq Presario 1925

I’ve never been able too see the model number in the movie, but I’ve seen other Eclipse owners use the Compaq Presario 1800, 1920, and 1925. They all look very similar.

Head unit - Alpine CVA 1005

One of the rarest and most expensive pieces to search for. Not only is finding this piece difficult, but you’ll also need the cables, and additional hardware to get it running. Alternatively, there’s the Alpine IVA M-700R which looks and functions very similarly.

Steering Wheel - Sparco L505

This item is still being produced by the manufacturer. You’ll also need the buttons and hub. Links below.

Speedometer - Autometer 2694 Z-Series 3-3/8" with custom face

The exact face for this gauge was never manufactured, but you can buy one that is very similar. There’s also a website that sells the correct face but I’ve yet to purchase mine. So I can’t speak on behalf of them, but will post the link below.

Tachometer - VDO Xtreme 9000 rpm 5”

In my experience this is the hardest piece to find for this entire car. There are a few variations - the 9000 rpm, the 11000 rpm, the Top Eliminator. If you find one I recommend buying it. There’s also a website that sells the correct face but I’ve yet to purchase mine. So I can’t speak on behalf of them, but will post the link below.

Fuel Gauge - VDO Vision E/1.5/F

This gauge is nearly impossible to see in the movie. From talking to other Eclipse builders I’ve learned its the one with E, 1/2, F with the word Fuel centered. Who knows?? There are easy to find.

Center Gauge Right - GReddy Turbo 736/2.0 52mm

GReddy Turbo gauge with 736/2.0 52mm. These light up green, and require additional cables to get working properly.

Center Gauge Left - Greddy Temp 30/150 60mm

GReddy Temp gauge with 30/150 60mm. These light up green, and require additional cables to get working properly.

Center plate & Switches

Luckily these can be purchased from Racer’s Edge Detailing minus the Catz switch, and correct gauges.

Red & Yellow Switch - Catz Power Switch

This custom Catz power switch is rare, and was painted red and yellow in the film. I’ve found it inside fog light packaging from Catz.

Airbag Gauge Left - GReddy Temp 30/150

These are basically impossible to see in the film. I’ve learned from other Eclipse builders that it was a 60mm GReddy Temp gauge with 30/150. These light up green, and require additional cables to get working properly.

Airbag Gauge Middle - GReddy Oil Press 0/10

These are basically impossible to see in the film. I’ve learned from other Eclipse builders that it was a 60mm GReddy Oil Press gauge with 0/10. These light up green, and require additional cables to get working properly.

Airbag Gauge Right - GReddy Oil Press 0/10

These are basically impossible to see in the film. I’ve learned from other Eclipse builders that it was a 60mm GReddy Oil Press gauge with 0/10. These light up green, and require additional cables to get working properly.

Carbon fiber dash kit

Most of the doors, dash, and middle console had a carbon fiber dash kit. There’s a bunch of them out there if you Google search it. Make sure it’s for a 95-99 Eclipse.

NOS Bottle - 10lb Chrome

Two 10lb chrome bottles with blue cap. Fast and Furious Parts sells them.

NOS Bracket - Black with white Outlined Logo

Black brackets with white outlined NOS logo. Racer’s Edge Detailing sells one that’s very similar but has a solid white NOS logo.
